JUSTICE WITHOUT BORDERS: GAZA FUTURE SCHOLARS INITIATIVE
As of September 2024, approximately 88,000 to 90,000
university students in Gaza have had their higher education
disrupted, with all universities in the Gaza Strip destroyed
or damaged following October 2023. The ongoing conflict
has left a generation with limited options to complete their
degrees, with many facing severe restrictions on traveling
abroad for education.

The initiative works to rebuild human capacity in Gaza by connecting students with universities, delivering vital online academic programs, and advocating for institutional pathways that expand access to higher education. In just a few months, Justice Without Borders has developed a global network of contributors providing academic programs, training, resources, and advocacy to support students striving to continue their education under extraordinary and often impossible circumstances.
Since the escalation of conflict in 2023, all 12 institutions of higher education in Gaza have been destroyed, leaving an entire academic system in collapse. Thousands of students have been killed, injured, or displaced, and many more have been unable to continue their studies. What has been lost is not only infrastructure, but the future of a generation.
Higher Education Staff: Over 400 teachers and professors have been killed, with thousands more injured, severely impacting the ability to resume education.
In response, MASIJC and its partners are working to identify scholarships, university placements, and safe pathways for Palestinian students to continue their education abroad. Through coordinated global efforts, this initiative seeks to ensure that students are not defined by the destruction around them, but are given the opportunity to pursue knowledge, rebuild their futures, and ultimately contribute to the recovery and resilience of their communities.
MASIJC Justice Without Borders is a legal advocacy initiative of the MAS Immigrant Justice Center dedicated to protecting the rights of immigrants, refugees, and vulnerable communities whose access to justice is often limited by geography, poverty, language barriers, or immigration status.

The ongoing war in Gaza has not only devastated homes, hospitals, and places of worship, it has also shattered the institutions that sustain intellectual life and human possibility. Universities that once nurtured the dreams of young Palestinians now lie damaged or destroyed. Lecture halls have fallen silent, laboratories have been reduced to rubble, and thousands of students who dedicated their lives to education have suddenly been left without a path forward.
